You asked an eager client for a Google review, and they promptly replied with enthusiasm, “Done! Just Posted!” You rush over to your Google Business Profile (GBP) to find the bad news – the review isn’t there!

Does that sound familiar to you? I can relate as I often hear from so many small business owners, local shops, and service providers across India and the rest of the world have this same frustration level.

No matter if you are a salon owner in Andheri, a restaurant owner in Bandra, a law office on Nariman Point, or a digital marketing firm in Mumbai; Google customer reviews are your business’s reputation online. They help establish trust with potential customers, bring in new customers, and will help to improve your local SEO rank.

So when those customer reviews disappear from GBP it impacts your bottom line. Therefore this article will explain what are the causes of Google customer reviews disappearing/not showing up and provide you with step-by-step resolutions to allow you to identify where and why the customer review disappearedor didn’t show up in your GBP. Let’s get started on it!

What Is Google Business Profile and Why Do Reviews Matter?

Google Business Profile (previously known as Google My Business) is a free service that displays your company’s presence on Google Search and Maps. For example, if you search for “best digital marketing services in Mumbai” or “bakery near me,” you will see the business’s name, photo, hours of operation, rating, and review – that listing is your GBP.

Reviews are at the core of GBP listings. A company with 50 positive customer reviews will typically result in many more clicks than a company with only 5 reviews. Additionally, Google uses reviews as a factor in determining their local search rankings.

Example of how reviews affect search results: Rahul has a printing business in Dadar. He had 12 reviews on GBP. 4 out of those 12 reviews stopped showing up – the week after the reviews had been removed, the amount of phone inquires received by his business dropped significantly. Once the issue was corrected, all four of the removed reviews returned and so did the phone inquiries.

Why Are My Google Reviews Not Showing? Common Reasons Explained

Why did my Google review disappear after it was posted?

You can have an automated spam blocking mechanism from Google.

When a user writes a review (e.g. by using their Gmail account as an example of what creates a review) and triggers any other markers for spam that would be associated with that user, such as using VPNs to post multiple reviews at once, Google will automatically block it.

Blocking spam reviews is simply Google’s way of maintaining the integrity of the reviews.

1. Google’s Spam Filter Removed It

Google has an automated spam detector that utilizes machine learning to find fake or poor-quality reviews. Even legitimate reviews can get caught up by this spam filter sometimes.

The spam filter usually incorrectly flags your review as spam based on one or more of the following:

The reviewer used a brand new Gmail account (less than one month old).

The reviewer used a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or public Wi-Fi (like Starbucks).

There were multiple reviews created from the same IP address or device.

The reviewer has very few reviews from the past.

The reviewer just created their Google account and posted a review within minutes of doing so.

Think of Google like a tough security guard at the door. They will sometimes also stop a legitimate guest from coming in as well.

2. Your Google Business Profile has not been properly verified

One major reason that this happens is that your Google Business Profile has not been properly verified by Google. When your profile is not verified properly, it is possible that any reviews that you get will either not display correctly or will display incorrectly altogether. Google has several methods of verifying your listing (example: either via postcard, phone, video, or email) depending on what type of business you have.

How can I determine whether my Google Business Profile has been verified correctly?

Go to business.google.com and sign in. If your profile states that “get verified” or “pending verification,” then you have not verified your listing properly. Therefore, if you do not have a verified profile, your reviews may not show up correctly or may not show up at all. Once you have successfully completed the verification process, you can expect your reviews to start showing normally.

3. Violating Google’s Content Policy for the Review

Google has strict policies for reviews to be displayed. A review normally gets removed for containing:

•    Abusive and offensive language

•    Private information such as telephone numbers or addresses

•    URLs or links used for promotion

•    Inappropriate content or not related to the writer’s actual experience

•    Political and/or social commentaries without being related to a business

If your customer included any of these in their review, even unintentionally, the review will be removed by Google.

4. The Reviewer Deconstructed or Deleted the Review

Yes, more times than anyone realizes; your customer could have:

•    Deleted the review by mistake

•    Changed their mind and either modified or deleted their review

•    Deleted their entire Google Account.

If this is the case, there is nothing further for you to do. As a courtesy, please reach out to the customer and politely ask if they will re-submit their review.

5. Google Is Taking Time to Approve the Review

It can sometimes take Google time to approve a new review (or post a newly posted review). If the review was posted today, please wait 24 to 48 hours before you begin to worry about where it is.

6. Your GBP Listing Is Suspended or Flagged?

If your Google Business Profile (GBP) has been reported to Google for a violation of the user policy and/or suspension, your reviews will not publicly display until the flag is resolved, or suspension is ended. You will usually receive a notification from Google when your GBP has either been reported or suspended.

7. Duplicate Listings Causing Confusion

If you have two GBP listings for the same business — maybe one created accidentally or by a third party — reviews might be split between them. Google may also suppress one listing entirely. This is more common than you think, especially for businesses that have moved locations or changed names.

How To Fix Google Reviews Not Showing| Step by Step

Check Your Google Business Profile Status

Sign in to business.google.com to see that your listing shows a status of “Published.” If it does not, you need to complete the verification process right away.

Wait 48 Hours — If the review was just recently posted, allow time (48 hours) for Google to process it and check again.

Asking Customer to Check for Their Review

Have your customer log on to Google Maps, go to their profile and check if the review can still be seen. If the review was also removed from their side, have them re-post the review using their desktop browser from their primary Gmail account (not a new one).

Have Customer Review on Desktop, Not Mobile App

Reviews made from the Google Maps app sometimes have processing delays. Encourage your customers to leave a review through a browser at g.page/[yourbusiness] for faster processing.

Duplicate Listings

Search your business name in Google Maps, and if two are returned, contact the Google Business Profile support team to request that the two be merged together.

Contact Google Business Profile Support

If you have tried everything above and are still missing reviews, go to support.google.com/business and raise a ticket. Be sure to outline which reviews are missing and the date they should have been submitted.

Avoid Bulk Review Campaigns

Do not ask 20 customers to leave reviews on the same day. Google considers this suspicious behavior and may remove all of the reviews submitted.

Can I get removed Google reviews back?

If Google removed a review due to its spam filter and the review was genuine, you can flag it for reconsideration via GBP support. However, Google does not guarantee restoration. The best approach is to encourage the customer to re-post the review naturally — from a well-established Gmail account, on a desktop browser, and without using a VPN.

What NOT To Do When Reviews Are Missing

The following is very important. There are a number of mistakes that businesses can make which will only make them worse:

DO NOT purchase fake reviews, as they will be detected and removed from Google; your listing may receive a penalty, or may be suspended due to this activity.

DO NOT pressure or threaten your customers for a review, as this is against Google’s policies.

DO NOT submit reviews from the same device or WiFi Network as your business location as they will get flagged.

DO NOT use review generation apps that claim to guarantee reviews; most violate GBP’s terms of service.

DO NOT overlook missing reviews, as they impact your local ranking, as well as trust from potential customers.

How This Connects to Your Overall Digital Marketing Strategy

Google reviews are an extremely powerful local SEO indicator and serve as more than just ratings; they also provide valuable insight into how Google will rank your business. The number of reviews you receive, how well you respond to the reviews, and the keywords that your customers naturally use in their reviews all have an impact on how Google will rank your business.

For example, when 10 different customers use the phrase, “best digital marketing agency in Mumbai” in their reviews, it gives your business relevancy for that search term. This is what we call Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) or preparing your content and business signals for AI-based search results.

When Google’s AI (or any other AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Bing Copilot, or Perplexity) searches for business recommendations, it considers the volume, recency, and keyword richness of reviews. Businesses with fresh and detailed reviews appear to be more credible to both human and AI systems.

Best Practices to Keep Google Reviews Showing Consistently

1. Request for regular reviews from customers, over a period of time rather than from all customers at once

2. Reply to all customers’ reviews (good and bad) will show your continued engagement with your customers.

3. Use your exact business name, address, and phone number in all of your online marketing (it is called NAP consistency).

4. Include proper categories and services for your business in your GBP.

5. Make sure to update your business hours, images and posts on a regular basis.

6. Ask for detailed reviews from customers — the more details the customer provides, the better for your business’ SEO and AEO.

7. Never provide anything in exchange for reviews — this is against where Google has set the reviews policy.

Final Thoughts: Your Reviews Are Your Reputation, Protect Them

Google Reviews are more than simple stars on a screen, they represent your customers and provide evidence of your efforts that can lead to new customers. With reviews missing, it can be frustrating, however, it can usually be resolved.

Continue to be proactive by verifying and maintaining your Google Business Profile, asking for reviews on a regular basis and with natural intent, responding to each review, and never taking shortcuts in regard to reviews through purchasing or bulk soliciting due to potential effects on your company.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

FAQ 1: How long does it take for a Google review to show up?

Most Google reviews appear within a few minutes to 24 hours. In some cases, especially if Google’s system is verifying the account or the review content, it may take up to 72 hours. If a review has not appeared after 3 days, it may have been filtered by Google’s spam system.

FAQ 2: Why do I have 0 reviews on Google even though customers have reviewed me?

This usually happens when your Google Business Profile is not verified, or when all submitted reviews were caught by Google’s spam filter. It can also happen if your listing is suspended. Start by checking your verification status and ensuring your business information is complete and accurate.

FAQ 3: Can Google permanently delete reviews?

Yes. Google can permanently remove reviews that violate its policies, and those reviews cannot be recovered. However, if a genuine review was mistakenly removed by the spam filter, you can contact Google support and request a manual review. Sometimes reviews are restored, but it is not guaranteed.

FAQ 4: Does responding to reviews help with SEO?

Absolutely yes. When you respond to reviews — especially when you naturally include keywords like your service and location — it signals to Google that your listing is active and engaged. It also improves customer trust and increases click-through rates. Responding to reviews is one of the easiest and most powerful local SEO habits you can build.

FAQ 5: What is the difference between a review being removed and a review not showing?

A review that is “not showing” may still exist in Google’s system but is being held back temporarily — usually during verification. A removed review is permanently deleted and the reviewer will no longer see it on their profile either. If your customer can still see the review in their Maps profile but it does not appear on your listing, it is likely being held for filtering — contact Google support in that case.
